More and more international non-government organisations have sprouted throughout the world as a result of globalisation. However, their effectiveness are still being disputed.
Some non-government organisations are being secretly funded by government organisation. In return, they help these government to promote its cause or act as a "propaganda machine"

As the world goes global, it is inevitable that more NGOs or "Gongos" would be set up. It would be hard to differentiate which organisation is governmental ot non-profit. A self-proclain NGOs may be secretly handling funds from a different organisations. The term NGO, in the future may not relevant anymore if people continue to doubt the so called NGOs.

First of all, globalization denotes that a state can no longer control non-physical security aspects, such as protection of information and technology. Confidential state affairs may risk being leaked out to terrorists. The advancement of communication technologies also has its vital effects towards terrorism. Different groups of terrorists, across different nations, can now planned their attacks more efficiently and quickly. The use of internet or other communication media also allow the ideologies and indoctrination of terrorist groups to broaden out at a faster rate. In this way, more people will be obliged to follow its beliefs and join them in their terrorist activities. As globalization created negative consequences and marginalization of some groups and global social and economic inequalities, terrorism will also gain more support from many marginalized people in different nations and will go about on a global scale.

with globalisation and technological advancement, it is getting easier and easier to steal intellectual property. the internet for exampls is the main cause here. with the globe being able to put its intellectual resources into the form of data on the internet, this property can be stolen and distributed as easily as a press of a button (literally). with sites such as youtube.com and other online video sites, more people can benefit from the free videos online. but if the videos are licensed and uploaded elsewhere where the site allows licensed property to be viewed or downloaded, theft of intellectual proerty is commited.

the-not-so-long-ago craze of downloading music for free from illegal programs such as the OLD NAPSTER have caused a sensation in the world about intellectual property rights and awareness. the modern world now knows that theft of intellectual property is forbidden in all countries. this theft is made easier by websites which provide a medium for people to transfer files, which people can upload data and other people can download, such as Rapidshare and SendSpace. with such activities going on in the net, people might even steal your photo off your MSN display picture and use it!

With the development of the global economy, globalization has become the mail subject in the world and globalization has become an effective way to improve local economy. So my opinion is that globalization is an effective way to drive off poverty. My ideas are as follows:

First: globalization will lead to the development of global economy and interflowing technology and improve the capacity; there will be more goods and high-tech uses. All of these would contribute to driving off poverty.

Second: with the development of the global economy, globalization has become the mail subject in the world. Some important organizations must be set up during the development of globalization. They will supply many loan and money to poverty, and help their economic development.

Third: globalization would also lead to the investments.

Fourth: global is made of the local, so the result of globalization would be good for the local economy.

Global Climate Change-- Yichen

This is the picture of overview about the global climte change.

Firstly, the earth obtains energy from the sun in the form of shortwave solar radiation. About 30% of this energy is reflected back into space. The rest pass through the atmosphere as light energy and is absorbed by the earth’s surface. Then this incoming light energy is absorbed by the earth’s surface. When the earth warms, it emits its own energy, in the form of longwave infrared radiation, or simply called heat energy. And some of this heat energy is reflected back towards the earth by greenhouse gases.

Due to the globalization, the use of vehicles and airlines to transport people increases, which will emitted a lot of greenhouse gases. It enhances greenhouse effect due to these increased amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Hence more of the outgoing infrared radiation is trapped in the atmosphere. This upsets the natural balance in energy transfers and causes the Earth’s average temperature to rise. And some areas experience cooling as extreme weather patterns cause higher amounts of precipitation.

As democracy spreads across the world and human rights as the constant focus by international rights organization, radical Islam is being criticised for violation of women's rights. In our globalised world, the idea of Islam being a primeval and uncivilised religion is brought across the globe. Through political influence, which is no longer confined to a nation, political ideologies are being adopted by other countries. This caused, not only political decisions to be affected, but also cultural aspect of a nation.

Hence, the spread of political ideologies across nations, affects the politics of a nation. The radical change in politics could also bring about adverse results in various sectors, like media and religion. Therefore, the shift in political ideas should not be regarded as merely a change in political tactic, but also a change in the way the state run and influence the country and its people.

Globalisation sparked a lot of radical changes in national politics across the countries. Ideas of state or an individual may be adopted by other states. Hence, one must also consider its impact on the economy, media, as well as culture. Political ideas may spark off a chain of reactions which acts on tradition and beliefs of a country.

In the recent french presidency elections, the topic of national identity was brought up by electorial candidate, Sarkozy(now, president of france).

National identity which transcends race, religion and origin is being threatened by globalization.
As different ideas and values spread across Europe in amazing speed, the national identity is constantly under attacked by this circulation of ideas across the world, causing much uncertainty in Europe. American dominance and growing Asian influence has also undermine France's position in the world. Therefore, it is difficult and requires much effort to keep this notion of national identity upbeat and convincing.

The idea of nation and national pride and identity is sometimes being mocked at. The is backed up by arguments that globalisation is takes precendence and countries should be concern about global politics, rather than focusing on the local sector.

Today, the world is taken over by globalisation and national politics is magnified on a global scale. National identity, perhaps not regard as utmost importance in the globalised world, is still crucial in shaping our belonging and loyalty of our country. Hence, efforts in creating national identity should not be toned down. Instead, it should require more effort as before as forging a national identity is getting harder in our globalised world.

Socialist parties today, do not seem to have a great impact on political issues and decisions. Sarkozy's defeated opponent, Segolene Royal, represented the most prominent socialist party, which did not challenge presidency in france since the cold war. This highlight how far Europeans have departed from their strong socialist traditions.

Socialism was part of the European political culture in the twentieth century. However, in the case of the United States, socialism never flourished.

After the cold war, United States emerged as a super power. With its economic status, the US also influence various political ideas. "Globalization, in this sense, has meant a transatlantic shift away from the politics of equality to the politics of the market." Politics in Europe, due to the emphasis in globalisation, focus on economic benefits, rather than state well-being. With US in the lead in economic status, countries, in order not to fall behind, change their tatics in politics, which would ensure economic growth.

As people laments the loss of socialism ideology in Europe, through globlisation, other forms of political ideas spread throughout Europe. The US, which advocates freedom and democracy, spreads these ideas across Europe, as well as other parts of the world. In a sense, there is not a situation which both sides would benefits.

games are a part of everyone's lives in the world of today. where ever you look (except in school of course), when ever you look, there will be someone close, playing electronic games on their handphones, potrable consoles, or even on sitting next to you in MacDonalds playing games on their laptops. did you ever wonder where all these games come from? international companies create and design games and release it to the world to play. games such as pinball for example are not the everyday games you play in singapore. but thanks to great influence and exposure to in-built Windows games, pinball is familiar with Windows users throughout the world. onlin games such as the ever famous Maple Story, have people from different countries spreading culture and language. standardised "game language" is created and internet jargon emerges. various acronyms such as "glhf" (good luck, have fun) and "gg"(good game) are known to gamers all around the world. and since the standard language for most of these international games is english, it is obvious that globalistation also occurs with the help of online portals and games!

notice how many girls all over the world nowadays want plastic surgery ? whether or not it is to improve their nose, their faces, and even unsatisfactory "assets" as we call them. well technology is advancing, and it is getting cheaper and cheaper to get plastic surgery. Botox injections are so widely available in other countries such as the USA and Korea that many females are turning to that alternative for face lifts. now lets see it my point of view. we all feel the need to look good, to impress or otherwise. however if we all think a certain "look" is good and turn to plastic surgery to achieve it, then wont alot of us look the same? bringing us to the concept of globalisation, much individuality is erased. ill give an example. dont most of us think that pudgy noses are undesireable? so if people with pudgy noses are given the choice to have plastic surgery, their noses would all look alike, making their faces look more alike, therefore erasing identity!

Those cultural and historical sites might have otherwise given away to roads, factories and other urban structures. Thus these old buildings can be protected and restorted to make them better places to attract the vistors to come instead of destorying them for the country's development. Such an effort to conserve cultural and historical monuments and buildings would enable the young in the local community to become more aware of their cultural and historical heritage. This is a positive impact on the environment because of the globalization.

Furthermore, it has the potential to increase public appreciation of the environment and to spread awareness of environmental problems. This is because it brings people into closer contact with the nature and environment. This confrontation can heighten tourists’awareness of the limited natural environment and lead to environmentally conscious behaviour and activities to preserve the environment. So people will be able to protect the environment.

Due to globalization, the population will increase and the heavy flow of tourists is related to the pollution of the environment. The use of airplanes to transport people to and from the destinations and growing number of vehicles contribute to pollution. As the harmful gases such as carbon oxide, nitrous oxide will cause serious air pollution to the destinations. CO2 is the most abundant of the greenhouse gases and its present as a natural consequence of respiration. And it will cause the global warming. Vehicles are the highest emitter of carbon monoxide. It contributes 97% of the carbon monoxide emitted. So as more people come to the destinations, the use of these vehicles for transportaion increases a lot. Furthermore, the air-conditioners and refrigeration units in the increasing number of hotels further contribute chlorofluorocarbons in the air.

The noise pollution is also noticeable at airports, and around major roads and resorts frequented by tourists, as well as the greater number of nightspots in urban areas.

Besides air and noise pollution, there is also water pollution. Studies indicate that the average tourist uses ten times water and produces three times solid waste compare with average resident. The water pollution is caused by discharged sewage disposal system. Wastewater has also polluted seas and lakes surrounding tourist attractions. And the polluted sea water is aesthetically unappealing and bathers risk suffering from water-borne diseases such as gastro-enteritis and typhoid. Sea-food can also become contaminated by pollution. But it may cause negative impacts on the natural environment if the number of visitors exceeds its carrying capacity. For example, beaches and coral reefs may be destroyed beyond redemption. When many medium and large size ships enter such environmentally sensitive areas inflict serious damage to coral reefs with their anchors and anchor chains.
As Singapore goes more and more globalize, more and more visitors would like to travel to Singapore. Pulau Ubin is currently receiving more and more visitors due to its increasing popularity as a rustic retreat for hiking, cycling and camping. As a result, some parts of the island have been developed to make way for holiday chalets, which destroy the natural habitats of certain plant and animal species, and threaten their survival. Littering and waste disposal have also polluted the streams and beaches in the main camping sites of the island.

Everyone has to be treated as equal, with equal rights and the United Nations aims to help people who are underprivileged or victims of inequality, allowing them to gain what they deserve. The different races and cultures within the United Nations themselves also shows the unity between countries, all ready to fight for peace and harmony in the world. Globalisation is shown in the communication and interaction between these different people of different countries.

This picture is taken from the library in TJC. The twelve people in the picture are all the members from the United Nations (UN). The United Nations is an international organization whose stated aims are to facilitate co-operation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress and human rights issues. The college put this picture in the library to allow students know more about the UN.

The American Corner in the TJC library shows yet another example of globalisation in our midst. Here there are books and videos kindly donated by the American Embassy to widen our fellow students' scope of reading and knowledge. Information and writing styles introduced by American authours which we are reading more and more is a form of globalisation not only in Singapore but in everywhere around the world. Books are exchanged and shipped intercontinentally and people from completely different backgrounds can read the ideas and fantasies of another in a completely different place and situation. Books, in our opinion, is one of the more powerful causes of rapid globalisation.

The TJC provides an outreach programme. It allows the students in the college have a chance to go overseas, which is Yunnan. The students can see what people’s lifestyle looks like in Yunnan and experience it. These pictures in the poster were taken by the students went to Yunnan. And they are shown in the college so that all the students can have a look.

The TJC overseas outreach programme, allows students from our college to extend their services and community projects outside Singapore etc. Yunnan. This provides a chance for students to experience the lifestyle in other overseas countries, as well as communicate with the locals. In turn, the locals can also interact with students from our college. This communication is a form of globalisation, where different people, belonging to different countries can share their experiences with each other, through different overseas programmes.

They are from Africa. Every day they suffer from the poverty and the hunger. We can not experience that but we should give a help to them. More pictures and information about their lives can help us to know more. That can make a link between us; we can make our effort to help those people we are not in the same region with. That is also anther form of globalization.
